Description
The feasibility of using a photodiode radiometer to infer optical depth of thin clouds from solar intensity measurements was examined. Analysis of the case study results indicates that the photodiode radiometer can be used effectively to determine the optical depth of thin clouds.

A computer simulation has been developed to optimize the use of the aircraft platform for the measurement of short wave irradiances. This model simulates the measurement of radiative fluxes in order to determine the approximate sample sizes required under various conditions of cloudiness.
